Kumarakom, known as the best backwater tourist destination is a tourist village in Kerala. It is a cluster of fascinating and exhilarating small islands in the backwaters of Vembanad Lake. The village is 85 kilometers from Cochin International Airport and 12 kilometers away from Kottayam. Kumarakom is also known as the rice bowl of Kerala. Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary will be a heaven for bird lovers and they can see the migratory Siberian cranes along with local birds like cuckoo, owl, egret, heron, and waterfowl etc. This bird sanctuary covers an area of almost 101 acres. If you are a birdwatcher, thrilled to enjoy watching migratory bird, then you should visit Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary during November – February. And the ideal time for other visitors would be June – August

Kumarakom Backwaters:

This might need very less explanation. Kumarakom backwaters are popular among tourists around the globe. It is one of amazing backwaters in Kerala well equipped with a rich variety of flora and fauna. Vembanad Lake is one largest freshwater lake in Asia. Tourists can enjoy a houseboat cruise over the lush backwaters of Kumarakom and view the vast greenish paddy fields and other vegetations. The Vembanad Lake is also home to many marine and freshwater fishes. Varieties of shrimp, prawn and freshwater fishes are found in Vembanad Lake.
